Abstract

This document specifies air interface trait packages for WiMAX Forum® Open Retail 1, based on Release 1.0 WiMAX Forum Mobile System Profile [1] and PICS [2]. The Trait Packages specified in this document are the basis for Open Retail 1 Certification Version Signaling (CVS) from the Air Interface perspective.

This document also covers the mapping Trait Packages to the test cases. This document currently includes the coverage of OR 1a by specifying the relevant trait packages. Coverage of future OR releases will included as those are decided.

Abstract:

The WiMAX Forum® Network Architecture Release 1.0 Version 4 - Stage 2: Architecture Tenets, Reference Model and Reference Points specification specifies Network architecture, based on the Stage 1 requirements specifications. This specifies how the requirements are implemented at the architecture level.

Prepaid Accounting Annex

This annex specifies an extension to the RADIUS protocol that enables service providers to perform accounting and charging in an "online" fashion. In particular, they enable the service provider to (a) ensure that subscriber's remaining funds suffice before the service is delivered, and (b) interrupt service provision when the funds are exhausted. Note that these capabilities are typically used in scenarios where the subscriber maintains a prepaid account with the service provider; hence, this extension is called the "prepaid" extension for RADIUS.  Also note that the above capabilities are not provided by the base RADIUS protocol.

Evolotion Hooks Annex

This Annex to the WiMAX Forum® Network Architecture Release 1.0 Version 4 - Stage 3: Detailed Protocols and Procedures specification contains hooks for the compatible evolution of the ASN control protocol. This Annex contains:
- Detailed description of TLV related error handling including examples;
- Guidelines for using the hooks in the baseline version;
- Guidelines for the compatible evolution of the ASN control protocol;
- Guidelines for the ASN control protocol related handling of legacy nodes;
- A description how the hooks for the compatible evolution of the ASN control protocol may be used in future to elaborate a scheme for compatible evolution
- Fundamental rules the hooks and mechanisms for compatible evolution of this specification are built upon.

This Annex is not normative.

The WiMAX Forum® Network Architecture - Release 1.5 Version 1 Draft O - Stage 3: Detailed Protocols and Procedures specifies protocol-level details. In some cases, the specification may include significant normative references to standards or other specifications developed outside the WiMAX Forum. This specification is comprised of a suite of documents including the core specification and standalone feature specifications.

The Base specification contains the core protocols.

The Evolution Hooks Annex contains hooks and principles for evolution to ensure forward compatibility.

The IMS specification specifies Interworking of WiMAX Networks with the 3GPP Release 7 and 3GPP2 IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).

The PCC specification specifies the Policy and Charging Control framework for WiMAX that allows applications like IMS to dynamically request QoS and apply charging attributes for a specified service data flow from the access network where the framework verifies the authorization for the requested QoS. The PCC framework is based on 3GPP Release 7 PCC.

The RoHC specification describes system architecture and signaling procedures for Robust Header Compression (RoHC), and data handling mechanism between RoHC entity peers in WiMAX networks.

The Universal Services Interface (USI) specification is a framework for specifying required WiMAX network interfaces towards trusted third party Internet Application Services Providers.

The OTA General specification incorporates Stage 2 and Stage 3 text for general over-the-air provision and activation procedures in WiMAX networks.

The OTA-OMA-DM specification incorporates Stage 2 and Stage 3 text for Over-The-Air (OTA) Provisioning and Activation based on OMA-DM protocol.

The OTA-TR-069 specification incorporates Stage 3 text for Over-The-Air (OTA) Provisioning and Activation based on the Broadband Forum TR-069 protocols.

The Emergency Services specification describes the framework for WiMAX networks to support emergency services (ES) for WiMAX commercial VoIP services. It provides an overall architectural framework for emergency services handling in WiMAX networks, and specifies all functionality that is required in the ASN/CSN for ES support.

The LBS specification describes Location Based Services for WiMAX networks.

The Lawful Intercept-NALI specification defines the interfaces between a service provider that facilitates WiMAX subscriber access to the Internet or to services provided by a WiMAX Service Provider, and a law enforcement agency, to assist the agency in conducting Lawfully Authorized Electronic Surveillance for subscription-based Internet Access and Services arrangements in Canada and the United States.

The MCBCS-Common specification captures the common technical references, terms and definitions, usage scenarios as well as the system requirements and design principles to support the WiMAX Multicast and Broadcast Services (MCBCS). The MCBCS-DSx specification describes MCBCS services for the WiMAX networks based on DSx signaling as specified in the IEEE 802.16 specification. The MCBCS-Applayer specification describes the Application Layer signaling approach to MCBCS.

The WiMAX-SIM specification defines the WiMAX Subscriber Identity Module (WiMAX-SIM) application on Universal Integrated Circuit Card (UICC) for WiMAX network operation.
